Knights News

Good Evening,

Yeah, I know, Lent just started.  We’re looking out to the next big event.  That’s the M.I. Drive. This campaign, often referred to as the “Tootsie Roll Drive” is really a “Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities” The nickname is due to the nature of the fundraiser, in which Knights distribute candy bars, very often specially marked Tootsie Rolls in exchange for donations used to support programs geared to improve the Quality of Life for people with Disabilities, in particular, Special Olympics. So please, if you happen to see our Men & Women Members and Volunteers out on Columbus Day Weekend please find it in your hearts to donate.

And that brings me to YOUR part!  We’re looking for a few guys to take 2 hours shifts during the weekend.  If you can help us out and sign up, that would be very wonderful,  The good news is, we’re no longer on the roadways.  We parked Dick Waligore at 31and Van Dyke for years and he survived – amazingly!  If Mr. Waligore can dodge traffic all those years, you’ll be able to make a tremendous impact at a safe retail environment.  Please have a look at the spots available – CLICK HERE.

Knights News, Country Breakfast

8896af8d-7291-4b76-8f4c-97497113e1f6

Tomorrow morning after all Masses, we will be hosting a Country Breakfast at St Clement.  Please stop by with your families and eat with us.  This is one of our most popular events.  If you’re going out for breakfast after Mass, come and give us a try.  All the money we make goes directly back to the Parish and the local community.  And… come on, it’s pancakes.  What’s better than pancakes?

Next Thursday is our February Membership meeting.  Thursday, February 15th.  We start off at 6:30 pm with a Rosary in the Day Chapel lead by Mike McKinnon.  The Membership meeting starts at 7 pm.  If you’ve not been to a meeting in a while, I’d recommend showing up for this one.  Everything we do, everything that’s planned or even dreamt of happens at these meetings.  Our illustrious Grand Knight Joe Suminski is busy sunning himself in Florida. DGK Greg will lead this meeting.  We’ll have food after the meeting.  Come on, dinner and a show, where else can you get an offer like this?  (The right answer?  Nowhere else!)

Ok, seriously, I just had to include this.  Sorry, Mike.  We’ll have a caption contest during “For The Good of the Order” portion of the meeting.  Who will be our big winner?

April 15 – tax day – is right around the corner.  It’s become popular this time of year to encourage the opening of an IRA or similar retirement annuity or the depositing of additional funds into an existing account, as a tax savings vehicle.  A secondary approach is to tout the rate of interest that money in one of these accounts can earn.  Let me join the chorus of folks encouraging you to open or add funds to an annuity, but for a different reason.

Certainly, contributing money to a Knights of Columbus annuity will allow you to save some money on your income tax return.  And our annuities do pay a very competitive interest rate, consistent with our primary goal of absolute safety of principal.  Opening or adding to an annuity for these reasons, however, strikes me as taking a short-term view of a product that is designed to provide long-term security.  How much security?  How does a retirement income that you cannot outlive – guaranteed – sound to you?

Here at the Knights of Columbus, you can open a retirement annuity for as little as $300.  Consistent and disciplined savings placed into that annuity over time can guarantee you an income at retirement that you cannot outlive.  That guarantee – along with the fact that no one has ever lost money left in a Knights of Columbus annuity (remember –absolute safety of principal), really will provide you with peace of mind.

I am happy to meet with you – at your convenience and in your home – to explain in detail the benefits of opening a Knights of Columbus annuity, along with the benefits of our top-rated life insurance and long term care insurance plans.

As you ponder all the things that may not work out as you proceed toward retirement, think about one thing you can do to help yourself – opening a Knights of Columbus annuity.  It’s reasonably priced ($300 to start), guaranteed, and controlled by someone you trust – you!

New baby!

Proud to announce our 5th grandson Declan Fetherman finally arrived on December 5 at 6:27 pm weighing 7.14 lbs and 20 in long. We are all very happy the little guy is here safe and sound. We’re feeling blessed this Christmas!  Thank you to everyone for asking about him in an email, text or on Facebook.

Tom’s Brother-In-Law

Brothers, please add Tom’s Brother in law to your prayers.  Below is an email to Joe and I a couple weeks ago.  Gaspare is still in critical care at U of M and is finally making progress after a long bout with pneumonia. The family is praying he makes it home soon.  Please remember them in your prayers.

Hello, Worthies,

My wife’s brother Gaspare had a heart attack last evening around the time of our meeting and survived the event. He isn’t out of the woods as he will need a bypass in the coming days. For now, he is intensive care with a stent placed.

Please forward to the council for some much-needed prayers for Gaspare and the family.

Best,

Thomas Benoit

Congratulations to Ron Schuchard for being Knight of The Month for November.  (Sorry Ron, I’m a month late on posting this.)  Also, Steve and his wonderful Wife Andrea were Family of the Month for November.
This is a beautiful video set to the Lord’s Prayer.  Thank you, Larry Foltran for sharing.

Christmas with Santa This SUNDAY

This Sunday the Knights will be hosting a Free Breakfast with Santa after the 9 and 11 am Masses ONLY. We could use a little help with the usual things, cooking, bussing, set up, clean up and other things. Like I said earlier, Santa couldn’t bring his elves due to union rule restrictions. If you could show up and help us out, not only would the kids appreciate it, but, Santa will be watching. He’s always watching! #NoCoalThisYear

Updates From K of C @ St Clement

Happy Thanksgiving…

Good evening Friend, I hope you’re with family and friends today. Today’s a time to pause and reflect on all the blessings and people in our world. It’s my wish that you’re cup is full of all the best today. This community has certainly been a blessing to me. It’s interesting that the more you put into a group like this, the more you get out. Crazy right?

I’m on my way to Florida right now. I’m sitting at the Red Wings bar in the North Terminal. With luck and a few prayers, my daughter will give birth to a healthy little baby boy. I’ll post pictures in a few.

Santa will be showing up for breakfast (after all Masses) Sunday, Dec 3. We are providing free breakfast to all. We could certainly use a hand. As I understand it, Santa will not be bringing his elves so, it’s kinda up to us. He said having the elves work is some sort of union violation. Come out and help, you definitely want to avoid that lump of coal again this year! Am I right?

Social Night was a success. We had a good turn out and everyone had a good time. Watch the bulletin for the next opportunity to get together.

Speaking of an opportunity to get together, our Christmas party is December 9th at Capital Banquet. Joe had the wisdom to hire a GREAT BAND. Wayward Wind has been a staple in the Romeo area for many years. if you’ve had the opportunity to attend a performance, you know exactly what I’m talking about. They will absolutely take what is normally a good time, to the next level. I hope everyone can make it. It’s the K of C highlight of the year. PLEASE RSVP —> click here! <— PLEASE respond by Dec 1st so we can dial-in the food and beverages. And, by popular demand, NO Raffle this year. We’ll do the normal 50/50 but we’ll focus on spending time together versus a protracted raffle.

You’re welcome!

Christmas Card Sales kick off this weekend. Please see Jim in the Narthex. Our weekends to sell have been reduced so we have to make the most of the next couple weeks. If you need cards or any of the holiday things Jim lines up, please stop by.

Tilson Street Parking Lot – thanks to everyone that showed up and helped us run the Tilson Street parking lot. We had a good turn out and lots of people parking with us this year. This event adds a substantial amount of money to further the good works of the Council.

Memorial Mass – we had our annual Memorial Mass a couple Friday’s ago. We had roughly double the turn out from last year. Jim Burns did an excellent job organizing this event. Fr Doc was our celebrant. He always does such a great job.

Finally, I had an absolutely unbelievable adventure at the Father Solanus Casey Beatification Mass over the weekend. I’ll tell you that story later. Till then!

Have blessed Thanksgiving!

Good evening Friend,

It’s been a busy month. Lot’s going on at work and lots happening with the Knights. Thank you to everyone that’s shown up for the Texas Holdem’, Polish Dinner, Pasta Dinner, Peach Fest Parade and Parking Lot and or the free throw contest last weekend. That was a busy fall! We’ve got a meeting this Thursday and REALLY NEED some help with the Tillson Street Parking Lot effort. We need at least 6 guys per night. And, it would be great if we could get a lot of help from several people so it’s not a huge marathon for a few. There’s a sign-up below.

By-Laws

Please follow this LINK to our new by-laws. Read them. We will vote to ratify and accept them Thursday. We will not read them at the meeting. Please take time to read them now.

Highlights of the Polish Dinner

We had another great turn out for the Polish Dinner. I can honestly say, that’s the hardest I’ve worked in a while. You kinda forget what it’s like working in a restaurant. It was all worth it, it was a great crowd, the food was delicious.

Click on the picture above to see all the photos. It’s kinda like a highlight reel. (Please note that in the top picture, Jim is, in fact, smiling!)

Tillson Street Parking Lot

It’s time for ghouls and goblins so that means it’s Tillson Street Parking. We’ve got the sign up here – CLICK HERE We need at least 6 people for each shift. It’s a big project. If everyone would take a shift then we’ll avoid a few people doing marathons.

Meeting THIS Thursday Evening

Please make an effort to attend our monthly business meeting Thursday, Oct 19th.

Until next time, Vivat Jesus

Knights of Columbus, Romeo, Michigan Welcomes You

Welcome to our email newsletter!

Thank you for your interest in the Knights

We try to keep our members, guests and extended parish family informed about events and opportunities to help around our parish and in the community. I try very hard to keep the e-mails down to no more than 1 per week. Sometimes there’s a special need to send out a extra email. That is rare.

The format of our newsletters always the same. The main messages are in this block, on the left right under the banner and headline. To the right, I keep a current calendar of the activities and meetings. You are welcomed to attend any of the activities. The meetings are for Knights in good standing with the Council.

The rest of the email is a collection of articles and info from a variety of places. It’s like a buffet line, take what you find interesting. If you have something to contribute, by all means, send it to me and I’ll include it.

You can find all the previous newsletters here.

If you have questions about the Council, you can contact Joe Suminski, Grand Knight, 586-337-5776.
If you have questions about membership, you can contact Karrie Illner at 586-337-4225.

Of course, you’re always welcome to call or email me. My contact info is below.
