MI Drive 2023 March 31 and April 1 and 2

It’s time for the M.I. Drive. This campaign, often referred to as the “Tootsie Roll Drive” is really a “Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities” The nickname is due to the nature of the fundraiser, in which Knights distribute candy bars, very often specially marked Tootsie Rolls in exchange for donations used to support programs geared to improve the Quality of Life for people with Disabilities, in particular, Special Olympics. So please, if you happen to see our Men & Women Members and Volunteers out on Columbus Day Weekend please find it in your hearts to donate.

You’d like to help us “in the field”?? That’s fantastic. Let us know when and where you can help – click HERE.

What’s that you say? You’d like to donate to this special event directly without all the added bother of finding us around town, please click on the Tootsie Roll below. (On line donations are done for 2032, thank you everyone.)

Thank you for all the support over the years. The money we collect goes to fund programs for folks with disabilities at the Romeo Parks and Recreation center. Here’s a link to the current brochure, the Knights are mentioned multiple times.

When you support us, you support the important programs at Romeo Washington Bruce Parks and Recreation.

MI Drive Sunday

The weather was not kind – again – today.  In the now infamous words of Mark DiPaola, “this is not a beauty contest!” Boots, hats, longjohns and gloves were a must.  With proper preparation, we had a very good event.  There was some confusion with the Santa Hat but — people seemed mostly ok wishing me “Merry Christmas” back.

Lot’s of guys (and families) showed to help.  I think we had all our spots filled all weekend.  That allowed us to collect a good deal money.  I’ll report-out when the final count is done.  Thanks to everyone braving the elements, or counting money, or making coffee and hotdogs.  All the help in all the places is what it takes to make a multi-day event with dozens of people run smooth.

A special Thanks to Mark DiPaola.  He was this years’ 2018 MI Drive Chairperson.  He put in a tremendous amount of energy to make this weekend so smooth.   Without his leadership, this event and the cause it supports would suffer greatly.  Thanks, Mark!

MI Drive Saturday

It’s been a full impact day for all of us.  We got lots of help – which really helps.  The more people we have turn out the better we do.   It was cold and windy but the boys pressed on.  We’ll be back at it tomorrow.  Look for us tomorrow, Palm Sunday around the Romeo and Almont areas.

MI Drive This Weekend

Knights News

Good morning Brian

It’s hard to believe it’s Palm Sunday already.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m 100% ready for this winter to be over.  As I know you know, Palm Sunday is our annual MI Drive effort.

And that brings me to YOUR part!  We’re looking for a few guys to take 2 hours shifts during the weekend.  If you can help us out and sign up, that would be very wonderful,  The good news is, we’re no longer on the roadways.  We parked Dick Waligore at 31and Van Dyke for years and amazingly he survived!  If Mr. Waligore can dodge traffic all those years, you’ll be able to make a tremendous impact at a nice safe retail environment.  Please have a look at the spots available – CLICK HERE.  You don’t have to be a Knight to help. Your older kids, wife, neighbours, etc.  The more people we have help, the more money we can donate.

Mark is looking for some empty (clean) window washing fluid jugs so he can upgrade our collection buckets.  If you’ve got one and could bring it by the Knights room, that would be grand.

Got Jugs?

We’re in need of jugs! There, I just said it! Mark DiPaola is upgrading our donation buckets.  No more pink ones.  Mark’s got nice vinyl stickers to wrap them.  This is where YOU come in.  Could you bring an empty, CLEAN gallon jug of window washing solution?  Bring them to the Knights room.  This time of year, you need to add some window washer fluid anyway – just do it. Bring the empties to church.
